This photo definitely garnered the highest critical acclaim, for the way in which it captured light, shadow, depth, the minimal human element, the highlighted path, etc. I myself was particularly drawn to the contrast of light and dark, old and new, displaced and disadvantaged vs incoming wealth and development which was so evident as one exited the old city towards the newer downtown core. Aesthetically, I loved the play of light and shadow on the same and opposing sides of the street, both left to right, and top to bottom, and the zigzagging pattern, and the repeating shapes created by the positive vs negative space.
